Few know the name Jens Jensen, but his ideas about making city life healthy, green and just are right for our times. Jensen (1860-1951) was a penniless immigrant whose belief in Democracy and access to nature helped him fight endemic corruption to save lands that are now national parks, to design over 600 landscapes and to create the first American style of landscape architecture called The Prairie Style. Today, more than ever, we need an icon like Jensen to inspire citizens, business and civic leaders to make the modern city livable.
